Blog Post

An Interview With Katherine Cassidy

What are your responsibilities at Lindley Law?

My primary title is “Paralegal” but it is certainly not the only hat I wear.  My day-to-day includes anything from communicating with clients, processing court filing, scheduling consultations, maintaining our calendar, or even giving potential tenants a tour of our new building.

As a paralegal I draft court filings, organize client documents, and prepare exhibits for depositions, mediations, and other hearings.  I am often asked, “what is a paralegal” and the simplest explanation is that I provide support for the attorneys and assist in managing the workload that they face each day.

Additionally, I am an Office Manager.  This means I keep the office looking good, keep the coffee flowing, and make sure there is always paper in the printer!

I also have taken over our marketing efforts.  This includes writing our weekly legal blog, with the help of Trey, Satie, and Ryan.  It also entails scheduling meetings with members of the Senior Care Community as well as the Construction Law Community to coordinate Lunch and Learns or other sponsored events.

What is your favorite part about working at Lindley Law?

No two days are the same.  Lindley Law is a small, yet growing, law firm.  This provides plenty of opportunities to learn from new experiences and develop new professional skills.

I also enjoy my frequent interactions with both our retained clients and potential new clients.  For most of our clients this is their first experience with litigation and it can be daunting.  Nevertheless, I try to provide a positive and informative prospective that helps our clients better understand the complex litigation process.  Given the small size of our firm, I enjoy developing a personal relationship with our clients as we assist them from consultation to the conclusion of their legal matter.

Wearing so many hats is both challenging and rewarding.  The assortment of daily tasks are often difficult to balance, but this keeps the job fresh and interesting.  Because this is my first position in a law firm, I feel fortunate for this wide variety of experiences.

How long have you worked for Lindley Law?

I started working at Lindley Law on April 9, 2018.  Although I have only been here for three months, I feel like I have taken to the firm, and the people, like a pig in mud!  I love the work I do and the people make every day interesting!  These three months have flown by and I cannot wait to see what the future hold for both me and Lindley Law.

What did you do prior to working at Lindley Law?

Before I came to Lindley Law I was a full time student!  I attended The University of North Carolina at Charlotte from 2014-2017 and graduated in December with my degree in Political Science and Criminal Justice.  I also attended The University of North Carolina at Charlotte’s Continuing Education Program to obtain my Paralegal Certification.

While I was in undergrad I was a member of Delta Zeta sorority.  I was also a member of the Political Science Honors Organization and the Criminal Justice Honors Organization.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

When I am not working you can find me in South End, Charlotte!  In November 2017 I rescued a puppy who is now almost 1 year old and he goes everywhere with me.  I am also getting married to my high school sweetheart in January 2019, so a large portion of my free time is spent planning the upcoming wedding!

Recently, I have gotten into the Charlotte fitness scene.  I am a newly selected ambassador for the Work for Your Beer group which is joining the beer and fitness communities of Charlotte together!  If you like free (or very cheap) yoga classes, running clubs, or cycling programs and enjoy beer, then I recommend checking out their website to see the upcoming class schedules and sign up for the weekly newsletter!

What is one fact not everyone knows about you?

When I was younger I used to race motocross…during the same years that I practiced ballet. When people first meet me, they would never guess that I could operate a motorcycle, especially if they have seen my driving record.  Racing was a family affair; my dad and my brother also raced, while my mom was our biggest cheerleader.  I stopped racing after my dad had an accident and we all hung up our helmets.  I continued dancing through my junior year of high school.

Now, in my early adult years, my only interesting fact is that I LOVE brussel sprouts.  I love making brussel sprouts and order them whenever I find them on a menu!  If you like them too, or even if you’re just willing to try them, the best place in Charlotte is The Broken Spoke in South End!
